I am in love...

With Chalk Paint!

I decided to give the homemade recipe a try. 1 cup paint + 1 tbs. unsanded grout. Cheap and easy!
I painted, I sanded, I stenciled and I waxed.

I've had this old stool forever. I took the cushion off. I spread some wood putty across the top. I sanded it smooth and painted the whole stool a dark brown. I made some chalk paint and painted the top twice. I sanded it with my electric sander until it looked the way I wanted and then I put a thin coat of wax.

Waxing it was so easy. I put a thin coat. It dried in about 15 minutes. I buffed it until shiny.

I picked up this calendar insert (thing) at Goodwill for $2.99. I sanded it as smooth as I could because the paper was peeling. I wasn't sure how this was going to look.

I gave it two coats of chalk paint. I sanded it, distressing a few areas, stenciled it and waxed it.
I love how it looks now. It really does look like wood and not cardboard.

This is my absolute favorite so far. By now I am an expert, right??? LOL!  I picked this up from Salvation Army for $4.99. It has storage under the lid.  So much potential!

I put a light blue coat of chalk paint on first. Then I put 2 coats of white chalk paint. I sanded, stenciled and waxed. I covered the cushion with an old piece of burlap I had and I can't stop looking at it! It was so easy.

So YES! I am in love with Chalk Paint. This is my first experience with the homemade recipe and I'm perfectly happy with it. It painted on a little rough looking. I wasn't sure how it would turn out but after it dried (quickly) it settled out nicely.

I love the way you can sand out your mistakes. NO priming needed.  It dries fast. Waxing is easy.
I have nothing bad to say. If you haven't tried chalk paint, I say GO FOR IT!

So cool, Sherry! I love the way all of your projects turned out, especially the storage stool. I haven't tried chalk paint yet, but I'm taking a class at the end of the month. We're supposed to learn several techniques. For some reason, I see thrift store shopping in my future!

That's so cool! I need to do this--I have an unpainted vanity and a child's rocking chair that I don't want to sand. Is this homemade version as durable as the Annie Sloan stuff they're always talking about? Love how your finished pieces look.
