A tale of two pallet projects...

This project almost KILLED me! Pallets are very heavy! And I am very hard-headed! I didn't want to wait for help so I got out my saw and cut the bottom part of my pallet off because the whole pallet was a little too big to hang on the wall. I accidentally cut my arm in the process. Trying to hold the thing by myself while cutting it was not a good idea. Anyway, I managed. The plan was to make a plate rack with the larger part, and a magazine holder with the smaller part. This top photo is the smaller part that I cut off.

Here is the plate rack. Most pallet plate racks I've seen hang vertical but I like it better horizontal. It just looks better to me. I used a magnet and found studs in the wall. I put MANY screws in the studs and hung this by a rope. I used hot glue on the rope knots to ensure they stay tied. So far, it's not moved a bit. I want to make sure this thing stays put. It weighs a ton!

I used my MEGA staple gun and stapled wire underneath to hold the plates. I had to hammer in some of the staples but it worked perfectly.

Here is a better shot of how it looks. This is the smaller one. I used wire because it seemed easier than trying to put a board PLUS it doesn't stand out AND I love the look of wire.

I really like this because I can layer plates or whatever I want to put inside the little cubbies. These plates are an assortment of whatever I could find at the time to fill this up. The colorful ones are actually paper plates from Dollar Tree. I will definitely be looking for pretties to go in this when I'm out thrifting.

I'm not exactly sure where I will put this smaller one long term but you get the idea of how to display it. What about setting it on a table, counter, or bar in the kitchen? What about hanging it in a sitting area near a chair to hold books? I think bottles would be very pretty. What about chalk painting it? So many choices. I think its going to be lots of fun dressing these pallets up for different holidays. This didn't cost me anything,
except almost my arm - LOL!

If you tackle a pallet project, BE CAREFUL! Blood, SWEAT, and tears went into mine!
But I loved every minute :)

I am a picture person . . . I always look at the photos before I ever read a single word. I'm looking at your post . . . what a charming and rustic dish cupboard, and the smaller one, for displaying any lovely seasonal objects . . . then the light comes on . . . a pallet! Wow!!! I love it when someone takes a nothing and turns it into a Wow. I'm hooked . . . reel me in.

I am impressed! I love how you repurposed those pallets. So unique and rustic! I'm sure that was a huge task. Pallets are often very heavy and dirty. Now you have a story to tell about those when anyone asks! ha!

SO cute! Pinned that for later. I'm not palleting in the snow but maybe I'll get crazy and clean out the barn to work there :) Cute, cute ideas!

This is fantastic! It looks great. Pallets are so versatile, I've been trying to get up the nerve to gather a couple for a project I'm working on. I hope mine looks as good as yours. Thanks for visiting me!

Pinning this, but not showing it to my husband. He just made me two plate display things for my walls and these pallet ones would of been so much easier and every bit as cute.
